Dear readers,
On July 20, the Consulate General of Colombia in Los Angeles will host a reception in the Tom Bradley Tower of City Hall for the Bicentennial Celebration of the Independence of the Republic of Colombia. The event will be attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, local authorities and personalities of the Colombian community in Los Angeles. Entertainment will be provided, with live music accompanied by a taste of the most popular dishes in Colombian gastronomy.
As a manifestation of national identity and patriotism, we will also offer lithographs by the renowned Colombian artist Omar Gordillo, in honor of Simon Bolivar, the man who fought for the freedom of five nations in South America.
Two of the lithographs will be donated to the Honorable Council member Jose Huizar who endorsed and supported the holding of this event at City Hall, and in appreciation of the historic day when the City Council together with the Mayor recognized and declared in a resolution that July 20 was to be celebrated as the National Day of Colombia in Los Angeles.
44 million Colombians can assert today that our country, 200 years after independence, continues to improve every day and builds a solid and promising future for us all.
